CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR THE NOTcracker 2004!
The Barefoot Brigade and The Bath House Cultural Center Announce a CALL FOR ENTRIES for our 4th annual festival of Modern and Contemporary Dance and Performance Art .
APPLICATION PROCEDURES & DEADLINES
THE WORK: Company/artist's work submitted must fall into the category of modern dance/contemporary dance OR performance art with a strong movement element. The Barefoot Brigade coalition is working toward greater exposure for modern dance and performance art in the North Texas area. In an attempt to gain greater editorial coverage from local media sources, the Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival was renamed "The NOTcracker" in December 2003. The Barefoot Brigade extends an open invitation for modern dance choreographers and performers, and performance artists who emphasize movement in their work, to apply to perform on the festival. Interested artists and companies must submit an application and required attachments by the August 15, 2004 postmark deadline.
Applicants are ENCOURAGED, but NOT required, to submit works related to the holiday season - Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year's, Winter, etc. Proposed works could be related in any possible way to one of the holidays or the winter season (could be interpreted seriously or as satire, or have a remote connection). Other works will be given full consideration, however, a minimum number of "holiday" works will be programmed so that the festival is eligible for editorial coverage in all of the local media holiday entertainment guides. Attracting new audiences for modern dance and performance art is part of the Barefoot Brigade's mission, and this format may have a wider audience appeal -- that someone who would not normally consider attending a modern dance concert or performance art event may have their interest piqued by the holiday themes and be willing to give it a try... and once experiencing this first-hand, audience members might be more likely to attend other events throughout the year.
