MASTER CLASS with Yaya Diallo

Village Dance from Mali, West Africa. Born in Mali, West Africa, Yaya is a member of the Minianka (Bamana) people. He was raised in a culture that works, worships, lives and breathes to the beat of the drum. An instrument for transmitting traditional knowledge among the Minianka, the drum is the focal point of Yaya's life story, and his link through the universal medium of music with the western world. Yaya speaks Bambara, Senufo, French and English.
Yaya’s classes are more informative than purely “entertaining”. He illuminates the traditional meanings versus performance element in his teaching, relaying to dancers what parts of body are used for what they hear in the drum, and using the whole body as vehicle of expression
