ABOUT the South Dallas Dance Festival (SDDF):

SDDF encourages collaborations between area artists and companies to support each other's growth and impact on the local community. Invitations for guest artists to perform in the 7th annual South Dallas Dance Festival are extended to choreographers and performers. Interested artists and companies must fill out an application! Artists might be asked to submit attachments.

SDDF seeks to work alongside the larger community to develop the audiences, venues, and financial resources necessary to make South Dallas a nationally recognized community for the creation, preservation and presentation of dance works.

This year, on Sunday 11 November, we will present a Praise Dance Showcase at 3:00 pm. If you are interested in appearing as a part of this, please indicate that.

Other events planned, include – Master Class with Gary De Matas; a film; a reception.

THE WORK: Company/artist's work submitted must somehow fall into the category of Black dance, or feature artists of color.

E-MAIL CONNECTION IS REQUIRED OF ALL PARTICIPANTS. SDDF is almost a "VIRTUAL" dance festival in the pre-production phases. You must agree to be accessible through at least one e-mail address. Due to the complexity of organizing this festival, nearly all communications regarding the festival will be conducted by e-mail. This helps us cut costs on postage, copying, long distance phone calls, etc.

If you do not have your own e-mail account, you must work out an arrangement with a board member, dancer, volunteer, or friend ...

THEATER FACILITIES:

South Dallas Cultural Center
Address: 3400 S. Fitzhugh Avenue, Dallas TX 75210 - at the corner of Robert B. Cullum Blvd.
Floor: There will be a Marley surface. No rosin, please!
Lighting capabilities: Tech time will be extremely limited and all light cues need to be kept to a minimum.

COMPENSATION

SDDF will provide an honorarium [TBA] to the selected participating groups.
Please indicate organization or individual check should be written to.

SDDF agrees to cover expenses for advertising, public relations, promotion, printing, programs, theatre rental, lighting designer, stage manager, technical crew etc.

Guest Artists must be prepared to cover all other costs related to the performance / presentation of their own work, such as transportation, costumes, music recording, set construction, etc.

COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS

SDFF will provide 1 pair of tickets to each director, if arranged for in advance. Comp tickets are only available to relevant media and sponsors, as arranged.

Please be clear about the nature of any contributors/collaborators to your work for us to generate appropriate press releases. If you need to expand your comments, please attach an extra page, so indicating above.

PHOTO ATTACHMENT: 1 photograph for application purposes, and which is representative of the performer(s). This does not need to be a professional photograph if you do not have any available. Preferably, it should also represent some aspect of the quality and spirit of your work. Indicate the photographer, the dancers in the photo, and the date that it was taken. Please do not send hard copies unless asked!

SOUND RECORDINGS MUST BE BROUGHT TO FIRST TECH REHEARSAL

CD will be the only form available in the theatre. Have a backup available in case of technical failure. ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST ONE BACKUP.

YOUR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IS EXPECTED. You are expected to give timely responses to all requests for schedules, marketing materials, etc. This means that you need to be sure to regularly check your e-mail regarding any requests for information. Please read and familiarize yourself with all of the information that is provided to you.

DEADLINES: Be sure to transfer deadlines and requests for information into your personal calendar. Anything which can be submitted in ADVANCE of a deadline is greatly appreciated. The sooner we have everyone's information, the sooner we can begin actively promoting the festival. Your ability to fulfill these requirements greatly impacts our effectiveness as the producing organization because the festival has no paid administrative staff. We simply do not have time to chase you down to get your information or photos or schedules...

PROMOTIONAL PHOTOS FOR MEDIA USE: SEND IMMEDIATELY WITH ACCEPTANCE OF GUEST APPEARANCE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE
Please ONLY send photos which you have permission to use for republication.
We will not intercede on your behalf to obtain permission from photographers.
ALL PHOTOS MUST BE LABELED clearly with Company, Photographer and Dancer Credits.
Many local publications will not print any photos without all pieces of information.
COLOR PHOTOS, whenever available, are always preferred by our local media. If they want to convert it to B&W, they can do that easily. If you submit color photos you have a much better chance of your photo being selected for an entertainment guide.

LOBBY DISPLAY PHOTOS

If we can, we will display one photo of each guest group in the lobby, along with a company/artist bio. Please indicate which photo you would like to be the display photo. See additional information about display boards below.

NUMBER OF ADVANCE POSTCARDS YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE FOR DISTRIBUTION TO FRIENDS AND AUDIENCE MEMBERS. Postcards will be left for you at the SDCC, located at the Craft House, 2618 Warren Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75215.

REQUIRED CREDIT LINES FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION DUE BY 22 OCTOBER 2007

  1. Sponsors/Grants/Credit lines necessary at the event. Please give us a listing of all required sponsorships, credits, underwriting credits, etc. which you are required to list when you perform -- also please indicate to us whether these credits must be printed in the program, or whether it is possible for them to be posted in the lobby with information about your dance.
  2. Sponsors/Grants/Credit lines necessary in advance publicity through press releases and promotional postcards If you have any credits which must be included in press releases and promotional postcards, please list that separately, label it clearly as such, and keep it to an absolute bare minimum of words.

TECHNICAL REHEARSAL will be scheduled during the evening during the week immediately before performance. Attendance is required.

Tickets must be picked up by 15 minutes in advance of the show time to guarantee your seat.

COMPANY DISPLAY BOARDS You are welcome to bring a company display board, or other materials. If there is not enough display space for all of the materials, we will display only the printed biographies (company and performers) for each company/artist. Please check to make sure there is enough space to accommodate your needs.

VIDEOTAPING All choreographers are welcome to video their own works during spacing and dress rehearsals. ARGA NOVA DANCE will hire a videographer for each performance. Tapes of your / your company’s performance will be available for $10. Please inform us of your interest, and pay for your tape in advance.
