The third annual South Dallas Dance Festival, "Paper Bag to Blue Black", at the SDCC was on Saturday 8 November 2003 at 8:00 pm. This series of events featured a master class, a roundtable and the performance. The class was taught by Christian von Howard at 4:00 pm. The Roundtable was an intergenerational exchange between dancers and audience in our area, at 6:00 pm. The performance at 8:00 pm, opened with a tribute to Doris Jones, a founder and director of the Jones-Haywood School of Ballet and the Capitol Ballet Company of Washington, DC. The live performance featured several ensembles - Bell Dance Project, Dallas Black Dance Theatre II, Etta's Dance Expression, Anthony Giddines, Lonnie Hightower III, Jim Moxley Tap Company, Khemetic Origins / Women's Artistic Revolution W. A. R., KUMAASI African Ensemble, Lisbon Elementary School Repertory Dance Company, NovaDancingCompany, Christian von Howard, and the first SDDF Scholarship recipient La Quet Thompson. The South Dallas Dance Festival is designed to promote Dance in the area
and eventually invite national and international dance companies to bring
their art to South Dallas. |
