Valena Peri Brown studied modern dance at Texas Christian University between the years of 2000 and 2005. During that time, she performed in works by Andrea Harris, Susan Douglas Roberts, Peter Kalivas and Elizabeth de Moraes. She has also learned ballet and modern dance technique from such artists as Fernando Bujones, Miguel Mancillas and Jin-Wen Yu. Before TCU, Valena danced with Revelations Praise Dance Company under the direction of Consuela Holmes at the Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas. She has choreographed for and performed with the Instruments of Praise at Camp Wisdom United Methodist Church, also located in Dallas. In 2001 and 2002 Valena attended the Debbie Allen Summer Intensive in Fort Worth, Texas. During those years, she performed with the Repertory Company under the direction of Alexander Pelham. She is both honored and blessed to have worked with him. Valena taught dance technique for Beckles Dancing Company during a summer residency at Lisbon Elementary School in 2005, and she has been performing with the company since April 2007.
