South Dallas Dance Festival 10

ARGA NOVA DANCE and the South Dallas Cultural Center invite you to the tenth annual South Dallas Dance Festival, Ten!
The several events included in the festival will be held on Fri-Sun, 12-14 November 2010, at the South Dallas Cultural Center, 3400 S. Fitzhugh Ave., Dallas TX 75210.
 
Planned events will include performances by several companies; a Praise Dance showcase; master classes withLe’Von Campbell;and an award to Susan Savarese for her contributions to Black Dance.  Other events planned include a film and a reception.

Admission: $10.00; Seniors, Students, Members of Star System and Dance Council of North Texas - $5.00

Le`Von Campbell
A native of Chicago, IL, Le`Von began his professional dance training when he received a scholarship to join the Dance theatre of Harlem as a trainee for the company. After much hard work, Mr. Campbell soon left the Dance theatre of Harlem and became a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre second company. Always striving to move forward, Mr. Campbell soon joined George Faison’s Universal Dance Experience.
Dance Credits include The Katherine Dunham Dance Company, Morris Donaldson Dance Company, Rhondo Dance Theatre, Disney on Parade, Gene Marriancio Dance Company, Bryant Ballet, and Sesame Street Live.
Mr. Campbell’s Broadway and National touring include: “The Wiz” with Stephanie Mills, “Raisen” with Virginia Capers, ‘Timbuktu” with the late Ertha Kitt, “ Pal Joey 78” with the late Lena Horne, and Donald McKayle’s “Evolution of the Blues”. Le`Von was also featured in the Opera Enscolto and Amistad.
Over the past decade Mr. Campbell has shared his gift of Dance with several local dance companies in the Dallas Fort Worth area, Dallas Independent School District, Ardmore, Oklahoma School District, and the Atlanta Public School System. Le`Von also served as Ballet Master for Happy Nia Dance Theatre, Membership Coordinator for the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, and Associate Artistic Director , Company Touring Manger for the Renowned Dallas Black Dance Theatre. Currently LeVon serves as Company Manager, Massage Therapist for the Atlanta Dance Connection.

Susan Savarese is a graduate of Rutgers University (BA in dance) and
Texas Woman’s University (MFA – choreography and related arts).  She has been teaching for over twenty years, fifteen years in Dallas ISD.  Mrs. Savarese loves to teach students a love for dance that will hopefully open windows to bright futures.

Mr. Beckles is looking for professional caliber male and female dancers for upcoming engagements. The audition format will be a warm-up by Mr. Beckles and then dancers will learn phrases from repertory. Please come early to register and warm up. The style of dance is a mix of Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz Dance and other influences.

Rehearsals are Wednesday and Friday 5:00-8:00 pm.

Beckles Dancing Company (BDC / “Dancing” is our middle name!), is a company based in Dallas. Founded in 1995 by André R. George, it showcases the wonderful talent growing in the area, and reaches a variety of audiences. Loris Anthony Beckles, Artistic Director and resident choreographer, is an award-winning choreographer who has danced with several New York companies and has had works in the repertoires of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble and Dallas Black
Dance Theatre’s Choreographer’s Choice, among others.
